The Tutorial Throw was designed for my friends who wanted to learn to knit, but who lived too far away for me to teach them in person.
It is a patchwork blanket made up of knitted squares. Each square introduces a new technique, taking you from absolute beginner to pretty advanced.
Often there are more than one ways to achieve the desired result. I’ll show you the techniques I have found to be most convenient. If you find a better way of doing things, do let me know! Live and learn is my motto 😉 You are welcome to use the comments field at the bottom of each page 👇
You can join the squares to make a full size throw as shown, a baby blanket or a cushion (depending on how many squares you make).
Each square measures approx. 15 x 15cm (6 x 6in).
For a throw I suggest you make 63 squares (7 x 9). For a baby blanket I suggest you make 25 or 35 squares (5 x 5 or 5 x 7).
My patches weigh around 15-18g each depending on the pattern. This means I get approximately 3 squares per 50g skein of yarn. (If you choose needles of a different size and yarn of a different weight than what I propose, these numbers do not apply.)
You are welcome to share your work on social media and to tag me (@annaplexis.knits on Facebook, Instagram and Threads, @annaplexis on TikTok, X, Mastodon, tumblr and YouTube). I’d love to see your work 🙂
