How to decrease by knitting two together
Extra materials
- 1 stitch marker (see Anna’s tips below)
You already know how to
- cast on
- knit
- cast off
- slip the first stitch purlwise
- follow a knitting pattern containing abbreviations
New abbreviations
- k2tog: knit two stitches together
Instructions
Cast on 48 sts.
Row 1 (WS): Sl1p, k23, PM, k24.
Row 2 and following: Sl1p, k to marker, SM, k2tog, k to end of row.
When you have 4 stitches left, knit next row as follows: Sl1p, k1, remove marker, k2tog. (3 sts)
Following row: Sl1p, k2tog. (2 sts)
Following row: K2tog.
Cut the yarn and pull it through the last stitch.

🧶 You can use a ring, a paper clip or a piece of yarn tied into a loop instead of a stitch marker (See Materials).
🧶 You can make this square with stripes, if you wish. The stripes accent the mitered pattern. Change colours as explained in Square Two.
🧶 I like to use this square for the corners of my blanket.
